With the nation’s supply chains currently working flat out to get essential supplies to where they are needed, MHE operators will undoubtedly play a vital role in the industry’s efforts over the coming weeks and months.

And with many businesses calling on new starters to help support their operations, members of the Accrediting Bodies Association for Workplace Transport, AITT and RTITB, have sought specific guidance from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regards the provision of operator training during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The HSE have now issued a statement advising training providers and business how to approach MHE operator training under these citcumstances. Specific guidance is given regards refresher and new starter training, and the continued need to monitor lift truck operators is reinforced.

Though key industries are under pressure, employers are urged to remember the following, “to prevent accident and injury, the duty remains to ensure that staff are trained and competent to operate any industrial lift truck equipment, and this includes driver training, and the employer must be able to demonstrate that the driver is trained and competent.”
