A joint statement issued by ABA founder members AITT and RTITB has confirmed that COVID-secure lift truck training must continue for those working throughout the second national lockdown.

The statement makes clear that training remains a requirement and plays a vital role in keeping things moving safely as the transport and logistics industry approaches its peak season.

To ensure safe operating standards are upheld, AITT and RTITB reiterate the HSE stance that “the duty remains to ensure that staff are trained and competent to operate any industrial lift truck equipment”.

It also confirms that, at the time of writing, the HSE have not issued any extensions to refresher training (as they did during the first lockdown), so forklift operator training should continue across all experience levels, as long as it can be delivered in a COVID-secure manner.

The latest statement also includes guidance on ensuring COVID-secure training environments and delegate safety, and advice for vulnerable groups.
