The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) has implemented new training standards for overhead crane operator training, that will benefit operators & businesses alike.
The latest requirements, implemented to promote consistency in the quality of courses accredited by the Association, specify a minimum novice course duration as well as placing a cap on the maximum number of delegates trained per course.
For novice-level courses to be accredited by LEEA, they must now consist of a minimum of two days’ training and allow no more than four delegates to be trained per course.
The changes should see a boost in the quality of crane training, making it far more difficult for providers to cut corners and rush training to deliver on promised condensed course lengths.
Instructors delivering novice training will now be able to ensure fundamental principles are fully understood and all key theory and practical elements are covered, so not only will training improve, delegates and employers will see the long-term benefits of this engrained knowledge when staff return to work. But, most importantly, the risk of accidents will be reduced.
